Nanocomposite for Novel Permanent Magnets
Involving the limitation of rare-earth magnetic elements, the quest for rare-earth free permanent magnets has led to the interest in manganese-bismuth (MnBi) alloys. With the low temperature phase (LTP), the alloys exhibit large energy products and coercive fields at room temperature. Furthermore, the coercive field has a unique positive temperature coefficient, in contrast to the conventional magnets which lose hard magnetic characteristics at high temperature. MnBi has also been tested as hard phase in hard-soft composite magnets
